I've also forgotten about another movie I really like.

It's: "300 Miles to Heaven" ("300 Mil Do Nieba" - very famous Polish movie from 1989)

Living during the bleakest period of Communist rule in Poland, the two young brothers have seen their parents suffer badly at the hands of local officials. One day, while they are out playing, they whimsically decide to hide underneath a passing freight truck and see where it will take them. In their journey, they pass from the gloom of Poland into the bright lights of Denmark, and are greeted by the rigidly stern Danish authorities, who put them in a refugee camp and are apparently trying to decide whether to grant the demands of Polish officials that they be returned. Nonetheless, they get a chance to explore Copenhagen at Christmastime. They also get to talk with their parents back in Poland, who tearfully urge the boys to do their best to stay in Denmark, knowing that the authorities (who are surely listening to the call) will punish them for this...

I saw the Japanese version of the Grudge II - I must say: it's one of the best horror movies I've ever seen. Really great. I recommend!

It seems to be a very bad teen-horror-movie. But imho the name of this film was worth enough to show it in this forum...

That is a good movie - if you liked that you should check out films like 'The Old Man', 'A Tale of Two Sisters' and 'R-Point'. I think at least two of these are Korean not Japanese, but still they are excellent films in the Horror Noir genre.

Argh - for some reason I managed to miss this thread completely!!! AND I notice you're on the subject of Asian cinema - SUPERB!!!!!!

I admit I haven't seen R-Point but I love alot of the other Korean cinema e.g: The Revenge Trilogy (Sympathy for Mr Vengence, OldBoy and, in my opinion, the best of all - Lady Vengence) not to mention others like Save The Green Planet, A BitterSweet Life etc. I found I've been collecting both Japenese and Korean cinema recently so I tend to wax lyrical at everyone if they even get within an inch of the subject ... so i'm going to shut up now before I bore the pants off everyone.

You can make that two other people then - because I really liked it - I thought it wasn't as good as the first one in many key aspects, but it is better than the dismissive criticisms usually levelled at it.

I also really appreciated 'The Revenge Trilogy' - though I think that I liked 'Sympathy for Mister Vengeance' most. I was expecting good things from this Director from the outset, as his early work had been likened to Takashi Miike's 'Audition'. I assume that you have also seen Ki-Duk Kim's 'Bad Guy', and Joon-Ho Bong's 'Memories of Murder'?

You have great taste in movies - I loved 'Save the Green Planet' it is such an offbeat movie, and yet entirely beguiling amongst the macabre violence. It genuinely ranks among my favourite movies of all time.

Have you seen Fruit Chan's 'Dumplings'? Probably the most nasty and disturbing film I have seen in some years - though not as disturbing as 'Audition' - its also a very remarkable intelligent, and provocative film.

If you like psychological, horror-noir, then I highly recommend 'A Tale of Two Sisters' - I think that is a film you might like too as it is by the same Director as 'A BitterSweet Life' It is so very different from that movie, but still, I think you would really appreciate it. Though you should think more along the lines of Kurosawa's 'Seance', or Nakata's 'Dark Water' than 'BitterSweet Life' in terms of expectations - as I said very different from this director, but so worth seeing. 'A BitterSweet Life' is among one of my favourites too. Did you watch 'The Killer' and 'A Better Tomorrow' which strongly influenced this film? I am not a huge John Woo fan, but those two are still great films.

I love Asian cinema, I think it is highly underrated, and underappreciated here in Europe - there are just so many really great movies that people should see.
And now I am going to shut up, as I, like you, could talk about this subject ad infinitum - or should that be ad nauseam!!!

Last weekend I have seen the film 'Little Miss Sunshine'. Very
crazy and very beautiful! I highly recommend this film to all, who

I'm a bit interested in this movie, but I'm not sure if it's really worth to see it.

Babel – this is an intriguing film. It has a very ambitious premise, and the individual stories within it are remarkably gripping. If they were presented as self-contained tableaus then I think this film would be truly outstanding.
I have really loved the previous work by this Director, and I can truly see what vision he was trying to realise in this film. The messages of universal communication, of barriers, and the impact of interconnection within this world are all very noble, but I think that he tries too hard to convey this message, and fails to convince with his stories, as a result of which, the film loses much of its potential impact and power. The Japanese section of the film is undoubtedly the strongest, and worth going to see the movie for alone. I did enjoy the film, and it is probably going to be one of the better films released this year – but if you are expecting an illuminating, deep, and thought provoking movie, then it falls short.
Nevertheless, I would recommend that you go and see it.

Yep, I think so, too. I just read so many reviews that I have to watch this movie only to satisfy my curiosity.

Oh soooooo fine!!I liked the fact that BRII didn't try to repeat the first one! I think a lot of people wanted to see another episode of the same which would be really good too but it normally ends in disaster when they try!

I haven't seen "Dumplings" and I have "A Tale of Two Sisters" and a couple of the others you mentionned but I will have to get "Memoiries of Murder" (I've got "Bad Guy") and " Seance". Thank you so much for the recommendations. Like you said - Asian cinema isn't as popukar here as it should be so it's often quite hard to hear about what else is available.

...and the movie is so.... french!?!

Just watched Six Degrees of Separation again. Tends to belabor the point a little, but still a good film.

Videodrone again for the first time in two years.

Kind of weirded out.
