A thought..

..Just a thought.. ...and some facts.

If this world that we live in was reduced to a tiny village, consisting of only 100 habitants, and if all the proportions were the same..

that village would consist of:

57 asians
21 europeans
14 americans (south and north)
8 africans

52 women
48 males

70 non christians
30 christians

89 heterosexuals
11 homosexuals

6 persons would have and use 59% of all the assets in the village, those 6 persons would be americans

80 would have horrible "housing conditions"
70 persons would not be able to read or write.

50 would suffer from malnutrition and starvation

1 would be dying, 2 would be born

1 person would have a pc.

1 person would have an academic higher education.

Now..if you look at the world this way, as a village, the unfairness of this world becomes rather clear huh?

If you wake up tomorrow, with good health, you are better off then 1.000.000 that wont live next week. If you haven´t had to live the horrors of war, felt hunger, imprisonment, or felt the pain of dying, then you are better off then 500.000.000 people in this world.

If you can enter your church or mosk or place of woreship without anxiety, risking your healt and life, then you are better off than 3 billion habitants on this planet.

If theres food in you fridge, if you have a job, a roof over your head and a bed to sleep in, then you are ritcher than 75% of all people.

If you have a bankaccount, some money in your purse and some pennies in your pocket.. then you belong with the 8% that have the most...

Like i said just a thought... and some facts.

Sometimes, I realize, who many times we seem to "forget" how lucky we are. Even with our problems, we are lucky.

For example me. I have lost my job last year. But I have my flat, my car and my parents who support me. Financial support, and always a good advice. I even have my PC and the internet. This is more than many ohters have.

I also lost my boyfriend last year. But I did not have to face a divorce with all the financial loss, alone with 2 children or something like that.

Apart from all my problems, I am still lucky compared to others. And when I come to feel very bad, this is what I call to my mind.

I do belive that our problem couses the same pain, the same heartache, it´s the unfairness of the curcumstanses cousing it thats the problem, every day thousands of children die from common deseease, starvation and war..

So, yes we are very lucky, to have the things we take for granted.

I just remember "Beds are burning" by Midnight Oil (Everybody should know this song):

"... How can we dance when our earth is turning
How do we sleep while our beds are burning..."

Yes i know this great band.

There a lot of shit goin on in the world, specially in our modern industrial societys the
people become more and more brainwashed and decadent. So let me quote this great
Covenant Song:

we close our eyes and look in opposite direction
we ignore the threats and hope they'll go away
we refuse to pay attention to the dangers we create
in the name of the fathers we kill our children
we wait and think that we are biding our time
we keep silent, we believe in our strength
we trust in propaganda of the wonders of tomorrow
in the shadow of content we are victims in the end

we dance to the sound of sirens
and we watch genocide to relax
we dance to the sound of sirens
we are the heroes of self-deception

we are nailed to the ground, frozen in our movements
we listen while the sirens sound, speaking of improvements
we have anger in our souls that waits to be released
in the chill of fear we're petrified and useless when it counts

we dance to the sound of sirens
and we watch genocide to relax
we dance to the sound of sirens
we are the heroes of self-deception
i want to close the doors
behind my bleeding back
and dance amonge the shadows
for future glory's lost

very interesting though as i sit at work, drinking my starbucks iced tea, waiting for people to pay me $40 for a half hour of looking at their lives... in so many places $40 would take care of someone for weeks... here it isn't even 1/10 of my rent... the world is a very strange place and we all have to remain aware of how lucky we are to have been born where we were with what we have....
