Es ist eine Überraschung, nach 4 langen Jahren wird das Neue und somit das 9. Studioalbum, “Modern Ruin” im Januar 2011 veröffentlicht. Überbrückt wurde die lange Wartezeit durch die Veröffentlichung der Live-DVD „In Transit“. 11 Songs mit unterschiedlichen Klangwelten präsentiert das neue Meisterwerk. Mit Modern Ruin beweisen Covenant erneut, dass sie Ihren Sound weiterentwickeln ohne den Wiedererkennungswert zu verlieren. Mit Modern Ruin haben Covenant den Weg in eine neue Ära begonnen, dies nicht zuletzt durch ihren Neuzugang Daniel Myer.

Das kurze Intro “Modern Ruin” ist ein Akustik-Werk mit überraschenden Klangeffekten. Gefolgt, von dem bereits bekannten “Lightbringer”. Der Song ist in einer Co-Operation mit der schwedischen Band Necro Facility entstanden. Etwas neues für Covenant aber das Ergebnis ist unverwechselbar Covenant. Judge of my Domain, welcher nebenbei mein Lieblingssong vom aktuellen Album ist, ist sehr melodisch. Besonder Eskils hypnotisierende Stimmevermittelt ein Gefühl der Zufriedenheit. Dynamo Clock erinnert an den alten Covenant Stil. Wohin gegen der Song “Kairos, sehr abenteuerlich ist. The Beauty And The Grace ist ein Tanzflächenfüller, der mit seiner eindringlichen Melodie den ersten Teil der CD abrundet.

"Get On" ist eine Reise in futuristische Klänge. "Words Collide" hingegen hat einen dunklen, melancholischen Touch. Gefolgt von "In the Night", welcher eine besondere Atmospähre transportiert. "Beat of the Noise" hier ist der Name Programm. Last but not least "The Road" ist das perfekte letzte Stück für ein großartiges Album. "The Road" ist ein gefühlvoller Song vollendet durch Eskils eindringliche Stimme.

Modern Ruin ist ein rundes Album mit einigen Überraschungen und emotionalen Momenten, während neue Einflüsse und Effekte verarbeitet werden. Man kann die Weiterentwicklung fühlen.

Review "Modern Ruin"

Good things come to those who wait.

It’s quite a surprise, after 4 long years the new Covenant album Modern Ruin, the ninth studioalbum, will be released in January 2011. The time was passed-by the first live DVD “In Transit”. 11 songs with different sounds will be presented on the newest masterwork. Again Covenant is showing the development of sound swithout losing their recognition value. Modern Ruin is the beginning of the way into a new era, not least by their new member Daniel Myer..

The short intro "Modern Ruin" is an acoustic intro with some amazing sound effects. Followed up be the already known "Lightbringer". The song is developed in a co-operation with the Swedish band Necro Facility. Something new for Covenant but the result is undeniably Covenant.

Judge of my Domain, which is one of my favorites on the recent album by the way, is very melodic. Especially, Eskils voice sounds mesmerising and is transfering a feeling of contentment. Dynamo Clock is very close to the classic older Covenant style. On the over hand you will find "Kairos" which is very adventurous. The Beauty And The Grace a groovy dance floor song with a vividly melody brings the first part of the CD to a round.

"Get On" is a journey into futuristic sound. "Words Collide" has an darker, melancholic touch. Followed up by "In the Night", which transfers a special atmosphere. "Beat of the Noise" the name is perfect for the song, because the beat is the "noise". Last but not least "The Road" a perfect last song for a great album. "The Road" is a moody song completed by Eskils messmersing voice.

Modern Ruin is an round album with lots of surprises and emotional moments. While introducing new influences and effects. You can feel the enhancements of the band.
