Photoshopping Covenant: Not Really Live, But In Color

Hope this is the right place for this kind of thing.

So, it's my day off work, and I'm not outside because it's raining like a mad thing (I think I need to be building an ark soon), and the snow is almost gone (which is strange, considering the previous years where Manitoba was still blanketed in snow and around -20C every day around this time). Instead, I'm in front of my computer, listening to some good tunes, when I decide all of a sudden I want to use Photoshop. I've done a lot of things with it, but never recoloring. So, after finding a pic that doesn't look difficult to do, and messing around for an hour and a half using this tutorial, I have this:

Nothing really fancy, as you can see. Joakim and Clas were fairly easy, because they have dark hair and you really can't see their eyes, but Eskil! Every time I tried coloring his hair some shade of blond, it looks like he overdosed in the Manic Panic. And I wanted a little color for his eyes, but the results of that warranted a speech bubble coming from his mouth proclaiming that THE SPICE MUST FLOW. Seriously. Pretty people are very hard to do up in Photoshop. (Not that I'm implying Joakim and Clas aren't pretty. ;) )

I got a few more promo pics in black and white (from what I'm assuming is the Northern Light promo shoot), and a few in color (including HQ versions of the Skyshaper shoot) that I might greyscale and recolor. So I'll end this post in a little question: anyone know where I could get a hold of some good quality promo pics? I promise not to go at them like I was a nauseous Care Bear. :)

M, some of the mental images I get from the turns of phrase you use in this post really make me giggle...

I see your nauseated Care Bear, and raise you a vertigo-ridden My Little Pony! :perfekt:

Oh my goodness, the spice joke made me laugh so hard! Would have really enjoyed seeing the ManicPanicDune version of Eskil, thought bubble and all too. :-]

Don't know where you could find more promo pics, I'm not that hip and happening I suppose. Thanks for sharing this one!

Great! :-]
Reminds me of some old photos which were colorized by hand with water color. I like Clas’ blue collar – it matches with Eskil’s eyes. ;)

There’re some Skyshaper promotion photos here, but perhaps you already know them: http://forum.infrarot.de/modules.php?set…=view_album.php
They are in color but almost predestinated to be changed a bit, I think.

I have those versions, and some uber high res ones from the Hardbeat site. I was looking for some good quality ones from this same photoshoot that had the 'shopped pic (which were taken by Kasskara, if I remember correctly).

a little off topic, but since you're exploring the wonders of photoshop ;) I just wanted to add that most fun it is to make some photomontages (i mean, not with covenant, but in general).... i made some for some friends..... www.myspace.com/lebenisttand in the guestbook

I think photoshopping photos is fun. Well, I could have done without seeing some creations out there on webland, but in the hands of a creative and clean mind, it's fun! ;)

Of course, despite my years of working with images, I'm photoshop clueless. Well, I can crop, resize, and rotate images. :sch: Most of my work is still on film and slides. That's just my being stubborn though, since I'm old school photo and spent many days and nights of my youth in a wet lab. When I shoot digital, if it isn't good the way it was taken, there's no editing. There's just deleting. Hence, I'm semi-retired in that field.

The best I could do some years ago, for a schoolmate's 21st Birthday, I made her a low-res card featuring the cast of the show Roswell asking her to buy her adrink and other forms of drunk flattery. I did that with Corel Print and Photo House! If I had any skills at the Photoshop at all, I'd probably do something for Covenant's 21st Birthday. After all, that's the "legal drinking age" here in the states so, of course, the funny alcohol reference possibilities are endless.

Hey! That's alright. I'm actually looking for good quality pics of any past photoshoots. Or maybe any black and white concert pics (with the photographers permission, of course. :) )

I know what you mean. 8o Rule #34. No exceptions.

Maybe I should do that too. The alcohol references wouldn't have the same effect, because where I am in Canada the legal drinking age is 18. But, being in Canada, maybe some sort of pot reference, since it is somewhat legal here, at least for medicinal purposes. :)

(oddly, this is the second Spice Must Flow reference I've come across this week...)

@michelem31: hey, that´s awesome - thanks for sharing!

btw: what do Covenant an Frank Herbert´s "Dune" have in common?
I guess I know most of the covenant-lyrics (and I have read all dune-books)
but I don´t see any parallels.
"I myself am pursueing the same instinctive course as the veriest human animal you can think of - I am however young, starring at particles of light in the midst of great darkness." (John Keats)

They have a song Painamplifier that samples quotes from the movie. Plus the name Pain Amplifier is from the movie too.

Oh. My. Spice.

Eskil's looking pretty technicolor there but Clas got the best quote by far! :perfekt:

Wow, thanks so much. Makes me wish I had a photo printer so I could add it to my fridge! Or better, to my spice cabinet door!

We all have natural talents, I feel. Thank you for the compliment, though! I'm sure other members who are also photographers appreciate it as well. :D

I hope they do (and you know who you are!) ;)... I always enjoy looking at their work...

And I agree. I feel everyone has *something* that they are gifted in.
