*sigh*
I have no idea why I'm posting this here, and will probably regret doing so at some point, but until that fickle sting of insight actually happens, here's an opportunity for a little schadenfreude for you. For me, it's aaaall about the closure, being I started this thread a while ago. Fortunately I am NOT the only one slightly jaded by this game, I have discovered... it has a veritable *trail* of disillusioned players in its wake!
An Open Letter to Final Fantasy VII
(my apologies if you've seen this on MySpace- move along, move along),
Dear Final Fantasy,
I've been doing a little thinking, and I believe it's time to let you know what's been on my mind. This isn't an easy letter to write by any means. I'm hoping we can discuss this calmly, without rash emotion or hysteria.
Frankly, I have to let you know that I haven't been happy for some time. I've been feeling very frustrated, as if I give, give, give, but get nothing in return. I have needs, Final Fantasy, and it tears me apart to realize that you are not meeting those needs.
When we first met it was infatuation at first sight. I loved your whimsy, you loved my devotion. Your state-of-the-art-for-the-time pixelation made me positively quiver. Your sensitive, yet dignified plotlines were new and mesmerized me. Well, dignified except for the part about Cloud wearing a dress that is, but hey, I'm up for a little experimentation now and again so that really didn't faze me. In turn, you loved my freakish enthusiasm. It seemed like a good match.
But now I have to admit I've been feeling a little empty. A little cheated, even. I mean, I worked so hard to figure out why the hell I wasn't progressing beyond that stupid decimated highway area just outside the slums, and you launch possessed houses on my ass? I'd say that isn't playing very fairly. Why I'd almost say that that is being weird for weirdness' sake, but I can't bring myself to admit that just yet. No, your seemingly arbitrary screwiness hasn't jaded me to that point yet. So I've been thinking maybe I should just leave before I get *that* bitter.
Final Fantasy, it's me. It isn't you. It's me. I'm the one with the issues, and I've been thinking that I should probably be alone for a while in order to address what I really want and need in a game. I mean, I've mainly played first-person shooters before, so I admit I'm a little out of my element with you. You deserve someone better, someone who will treat you right and give you the respect you deserve. Maybe someday you will find someone better suited to you- someone who won't mind your bizarrely obstinate controls. Someone who won't mind racing and breeding Chocobos, and, in fact, will do so with good cheer and grace. However, at this point, I'm afraid that someone is not me.
So goodbye, Final Fantasy VII. I gave you my best, but it just wasn't good enough. If you happen to run into me sleazing around Hyrule or Tallon or Phobos, please don't look the other way. Let us both remember the good times we had together, before I got fed up with wandering around trying to figure out why that asshole in town referred to sweet Aerith as a "heifer". Is that a password for something? Truly, Final Fantasy, you baffle me at times.
So farewell, Final Fantasy. If you happen to come across my name on your save card, think of me fondly, if at all.
Yours,
Holley

I was playing in the late 80s "Leisure Suit Larry" and without a walktrouth I would never finish this game.

I like the old games more (SIERRA and LUCAS ARTS) coz their games are very funny, I might say it is more entertaining than the new games with strange 3D-graphic/HDV-Graphic/5.1audio/support of 3DGlasses.

There are also some more old school games which I really like much more than the new ones and all downloads are legal.
