RE: Sudoku

O.k., I just solved my first Sudoku - on an easy level - and it was challenging;
but I´m a bit disappointed that it isn´t about mathematics at all (as I always thought and expected). I prefer crosswords because it´s more stimulating and
lets me think more about thinks I´ve forgotten or of which I haven´t heard in a
while.
"I myself am pursueing the same instinctive course as the veriest human animal you can think of - I am however young, starring at particles of light in the midst of great darkness." (John Keats)

I prefer crosswords too. Or cryptograms. I'm not a math person in the slightest so the numbers have turned me off of even trying sudoku- though, like you said it isn't mathematical.

Would be interesting to see a sudoku that uses non-numeral symbols or shapes. I wonder if people who wouldn't be inclined to try it might approach it in a different way then...

...hm, don't mind me, just thinking out loud (so to speak)... ;)

I used to subscribe to the NYTimes xword with a friend. It was only $10 a year.. well worth it.

There is a free weekly crossword from the NYTimes from their archives:
http://www.nytimes.com/pages/crosswords/index.html

Looks like they raised the yearly subscription to the puzzle to $35! ouch!
