No, it's not a silly question. But it's a difficult one. Daniel and Eskil will have to put in comments if they disagree even though I believe that they don't.

Personally I don't have any specific favourite. We try to be very restrictive with our material so that we only release the songs that we think are good enough to stand the test of time. We also try to make music in different styles even if it always (more or less) sounds like Covenant.

I guess you could say that I listen to music in a "utilitarian" way, I seek music that works for the mood that I'm in at the moment. That goes for our own music as well. I very rarely listen to Covenant but when I do I react to it more or less like I do to any other artist. If I feel dark and brooding I tend to enjoy the darkness of songs like "The World is Growing Loud" or "Babel" or maybe "Still Life". If I feel dreamy I go for "Spindrift" or "Helicopter". When on stage I generally prefer the beat-driven stuff, like "Stalker", "Call the Ship to Port", "Flux" or maybe even "One World One Sky", because they sound so amazing at really loud volume and they make people do crazy things.

So I'm afraid your question doesn't have a straight answer. Again, this is just my opinion, the others will have to answer for themselves.

agreed, eventhough i am still a fan, hehe. but for the most part its fun to perform the beatdriven songs live and see the audience go crazy!!

My selection of favourite Covenant tracks is in constant flux but I tend to like both the extreme hits like Call the ships to port which still hit me after a thousand times and the extreme B-sides like Consumer or Liquid Sky that still intrigues me. And the latest album!
Yesterday I was suddenly singing a little tune when I was out walkin taking a break from studio work so I rushed back to the piano to pick it out before it slipped out of my mind into oblivion. The melody reminded me of an old Mike Oldfield song/Irish folk song. I said to myself, jeez that’s a great melody, pity someone already came up with it, wonder what is? Perhaps I can use it anyway? Then later that day it suddenly struck me (as Joakim already had guess when I told him – somehow we know each other better than ourselves) it was my own song! Happy man indeed. I should try to make a national anthem of that one. Are there any new countries around in need? Ubuntu anyone?
Well, my point is, all our songs are like our (my) children. How could I pick anyone before another. Some came out better, some has inherent flaws but I love everyone for better for worse. Sometimes I feels songs are recordings of a recording process, like a diary. Some days* are just more likely to raise attention , some might be too private, introvert. Doing your best is the process of doing your best.

* Like when we, at the end of our Australian tour, were cruising with a private yacht lit by the stars and the lights from the Sydney Opera house until the sun dawned putting a pink haze on the cityscape as well to our sleep depravation going directly to the airport for a 30-hour ride home. Nein, das ist keine alberne Frage. Aber es ist eine schwierige. Daniel und Eskil sollten hier selber kommentieren wenn sie anderer Meinung sind, auch wenn ich das nicht glaube.

Ich persönlich habe keinen speziellen Favoriten. Wir versuchen sehr restriktiv mit unserem Material zu sein, so dass wir nur Lieder veröffentlichen von denen wir denken, dass sie gut genug sind um sich auf Dauer zu bewähren. Wir versuchen auch Musik in unterschiedlichen Styles zu machen, auch wennes immer (mehr oder weniger) wie Covenant klingt.

Ich schätze man könnte sagen, dass ich Musik in einer „utilitaristischer“ Weise höre, Ich suche nach Musik, die zu der Stimmung passt in der cih gerade bin. Das trifft auch für unsere eigene Musik zu. Ich höre mir sehr selten Covenant an, aber wenn ich es tue reagiere ich darauf mehr oder weniger wie ich es auch auf die Musik anderer Künstler tun würde.
Wenn ich mich düster und nachdenklich fühle, dann tendiere ich dazu die Dunkelheit von Songs wie „The World Is Growing Loud“ oder „Babel“ oder vielleciht „Still Life“ zu geniessen. Wenn ich träumerisch drauf bin, dann entshceide ich mich für „Spindrift“ oder „Helicopter“. Auf der Bühne bevorzuge ich generell das beat-lastigen Zeug, wie „Stalker“, „Call the Ships To Port“, „Flux“ oder vielleicht sogar „One World One Sky“, weil diese bei großer Lautstärke so fantastisch klingen und die Leute verrückte Sachen dazu machen.

Ich fürchte, dass es auf Deine Frage keine direkte Antwort gibt. Aber noch mal, das ist nur meine Meinung, die anderen müssen für sich selber antworten.

Stimme zu, auch wenn ich immer noch ein fan bin, hehe. Aber am meisten Spaß macht es, die beat-lastigen Lieder live zu spielen und zuzusehen, wie das Publikum abdreht!!

Meine Auswahl an Lieblingslieder von Covenant ist in dauernder Bewegung aber ich pflege einerseits die extremen Hits zu mögen wie etwa „Call the Ships To Port“, welcher mich auch nach dem tausendsten Mal berührt, als auch die extremen B-Seite wie „Consumer“ oder „Liquid Sky, die mich immer noch faszinieren“. Und das letzte Album!
Gestern sang ich plötzlich eine kleine Melodie als ich in einer Pause von der Studioarbeit einen Spaziergang gemacht habe. Also eilte ich zurück zum Piano um sie festzuhalten bevor sie meinen Gedanke wieder entwschwindet ind in vergessenheit gerät.
Die Melodie erinnerte mich an einen alten Mike Oldfield Song/Irish Folk Song. Ich sagte zu mir selbst, meine Güte das ist eine großartige Melodie, schade dass schon jemand darauf gekommen ist, frag mich was das ist? Vielleicht kann ich das trotzdem benutzen? Später am Tag fiel mir plötzlich ein, dass es mein eigener Song war! (wie Joakim bereits vorher geraten hatte als ich ihm davon erzählte – irgendwie kennen wir den anderen besser als uns selbst) Es war „Happy Man“! Ich sollte versuchen, daraus eine Nationalhymne zu machen. Gibt es irgendwo neue Länder, die`s gebrauchen könnten?
Nun, mein Punkt ist, dass all meine (unsere) Lieder unsere Kinder sind. Wie könnte ich eines dem anderen bevorzugen? Einige sind besser gelungen, einige haben angeborene Fehler aber ich habe mich abgemüht und alle nichtsdestotrotz geliebt, haha. Manchmal denke ich Lieder sind eine Momentaufnahme eines [fortlaufenden] Plattenaufnahme, wie ein Tagebuch. Einige Tage* eignen sich nur eher dafür, die Aufmerksamkeit anderer zu erregen, andere mögen zu privat [oder] introvertiert sein, oder es passierte einfach nichts besonderes an diesem Tag.
