Sorry, couldn't post here earlier as I was away for a couple of days - I was at a certain festival with many strange people in strange clothes and many strange bands on stage. ;)

Yeah, a little test run for Amphi! :D

Another important issue: :)

Who provides the beers? Or drinks in general, including alcohol-free stuff for the less wild at heart.

I guess we (Covenant) can probably get a discount from the festival, but it makes more sense to pool a couple of euros each and get stuff from a supermarket. This looks like a job for... Niggels!! ;)

Aaah, yeah, I heard about the *beer scout* qualities of this certain Niggels. :D ;)

One little problem - I'm not sure if the securities would let me walk around on the festival grounds with a pile of beers I bought elsewhere!

we could get together outside of the festival area somewhere in the sorrounding green or at the Rhein near the Hyatt (if that's the bands' hotel, I've heard that Phil Collins and Dieter Bohlen use to stay there). But it could be a challenge for logistics to fetch cooled drinks and return them afterwards before some interesting bands start to play. If someone could offer his car to deposit the empty bottels and return them later?
Or should we meet up in a consumer friendly environment, like a bar?

BTW: for the people who are staying longer in Cologne, I can recommend the viatnemese restaurant Cyclo (across the bridge, at Heumarkt on the other side of the river). Their happy hour for cocktails starts at 6 p.m :)

Issues:

1) Like Niggels said, don't think the Amphi coordinators would be thrilled with us walking in with lots of beer we didn't buy from there!

2) Outside the festival area sounds good, but we don't want the band to be mobbed by passers-by who are not part of the meet-up.

(edit: oh my, there IS a lot of green and trees and empty space there, isn't there! perhaps that would work after all... unless it's going to be filled with people by the time we get there...)

If we did meet outside somewhere relatively "private", we need a car to transport that much alcohol for all of us! Pooling Euros is a good idea in theory, but in practice, perhaps BYOB (bring your own beer) might be a better way to go.

3) Consumer friendly environment like a bar or biergarten would be good, if it was very close to the venue and the band had time to hang out for the hour and then make it back in enough time to prepare for their set.

Any thoughts, anyone?

Well, I had some bizarre ideas like stealing a boat using balaclavas (is that the word??) and getting the beer in through the river, or putting some goth clothes to the beer and tell security guys they are guests...

BYOB sounds very efficient :-]
Or finding a nice private place really near... We should ask the ones who organized this meeting what do they have in mind, maybe they have the place and stuff already planned.

good point. Shadowbyte already mentioned in his original invitation post that they will inform us via e-mail about the location. So let's just wait and offer input if they aks us for

Thanks for sharing all your ideas but i have to point out one thing loud and clearly! ;)

The forum meeting will definitely take place on the festival ground, not outside of it!

There's a number of reasons, mostly practical ones. ;)

Having said that, of course we could use your ideas for endless semi-official forum meetings besides the 'official' one. :D ;) Let's take the 'official' one as a starting point, and let's see what happens with us over the rest of the weekend. ;)

As Shadowbyte indicated, the participants of our little meeting will receive an email with all the details incl. place and time! :)

And please bring some extra money - I checked all possibilities, the head of the catering serviceat the Amphi won`t allow us to bring and beverages to the meeting, so we have to buy drinks at the bars on the festival site. Dammit!

So a few expensive drinks during our meeting and a few cheap ones later on? :D ;)

Watch out for this man:

He's dangerous! :D He forces bands to attend forum meetings and steals their beer! ;)

The good thing about him is that he's kind of a movable meeting point and will point you to fellow board members. ;)

Duuuudes! Don't get too crazy with the booze now! Oh what am I saying, go wild! Have fun! Say hi to everyone for me! And have an alcoholic beverage of your choice for me as well, if it's not too much to ask. :)
