currently playing

Doesn't look like this part of the forum is active at all but oh well, I'll post something here anyway, since it seems some of the old threads are being revived...

I just started Final Fantasy VII again and it's what I'm mainly playing at the moment. So far, I like it the best of the series. What I've played of the series anyway. I stopped at X.

Also playing Metroid Prime and Eternal Darkness for GameCube, and Zelda: Link's Awakening for the GBA. All of these over a looooong period of time of course. But they're the ones I totter back to lately. And Burnout for PS2 but that is more of a game that you're perpetually playing.

Was reading the previous thread- Castlevania Symphony of the Night *is* hard to find- I actually had it years ago and sold it on eBay for a hefty sum. I played it and really couldn't get into it. Was ok, but not sure why people rave about it as opposed to other games in the series.
And Ocarina of Time is, in my humble (heh) opinion, one of *the best* games ever made for any platform, ever.
Metal Gear games are fun- too bad I suck at them. :(

Having said that about Ocarina, most of the Zelda games are great, I think. Can't wait to get a Wii and Twilight Princess so I can swing the remote around as Link's sword, like an idiot. :)

I'm a big nut for the survival horror genre. Resident Evil, Silent Hill, and Doom are three of my all time favorite video game series. As for currently playing, I'm switching back and forth between Half-Life 2 and Prey on my computer.

I also love Mario and Zelda, considering I grew up playing them. (My dad bought the very first Nintendo when it came out, and he would always play Mario and get 99 lives saved up and then let me play. But of course, being only around one year old at the time, I would use them up within ten minutes.) As for Zelda, I think Windwaker is the best right now. That'll probably change when I get a chance to play Twilight Princess.

What kind of dance pad do you need for that?

Strategy is a genre that I'm generally not so good with, though I do enjoy playing them. I love Caesar III though. And Genghis Khan- it's really difficult however.

On my PC Silverfall (not a revolutionary game, but pretty good entertainment while listening to music)
And Final Fantasy XII with my boyfriend on his Playstation (though - at least I think so - X is still the best FF... I just love the hymn of the Fayth ;) )

X *was* good. Wakka got on my last nerve though. And I don't remember if I ever actually beat Seymour or if I got frustrated enough that I handed over the controller and said to my roommate "YOU do it!!"... probably the latter. And when I say "handed" what I probably mean is "petulantly threw the controller across the room while yelling expletives". For some reason I had a hard time figuring out how to beat him.

Seymour? That was rather easy.... but I always trained the chars until they more than superior to the opponents ;-). Really tough are the black aeons... or trying to get all the celestial weapons. (When I first played it I got 6 of 7) For Lulu's Lord Onion you have to dodge 200 lightnings in the Thunder Plains and the best time to try that is about at 7 am when you got home from the club 8o... i'd dodged about 370 when i broke off....

370?!? Good lord!

Did not even try for the Onion Knight (as it is here). I think in the future I will probably go back and play it again to try and get all the extra stuff.

Speaking of running around and leveling up...
Did you get a chance to play FF: Dawn of Souls for the GBA? I finished the first but not the second. There are so many improvements... the main one being the rest of your party won't stupidly attack empty air if a previous member of your party happens to kill the enemy with their strike! Instead, the target automatically becomes whomever is left of the enemy party. So glad they changed that. When I played the original FF1 that would drive me so crazy.

Really would love to sit down and get some good FF VII time in, but I've been so busy lately! :(

...and I need to finish the first Kingdom Hearts too, come to think of it... so many games, so little time! ;)

For the computer, you can use either an XBOX or PS2 (playstation, not keyboard/computerPS2) compatible one with a USB converter. The stepmania website lists appropriate ones. I have this set up:

http://www.buynshop.com/productinfo/4985/VG-DDR-DXOE3/
http://www.buynshop.com/productinfo/45/VG-PS-USB2X1/

But they (buynshop) have a lot of newer pads. The DX lite looks decent also, and is a little cheaper. But you def. want a pad that has the 1" foam inserts... not just one that is flat. I think they call those the "DX" series.

The Fusion and Sparkle Pads that have the built in USB connection also looks good... so now you don't have to buy a separate adapter ($12-$15).

Last time I checked, GameStop didn't have USB adapters.. so it's best to buy online. The only pad I would recommend that you buy in a store are the RedOctane ones.. but they are $100 min.. you get the same quality stuff from buynshop.

I also have a similar pad I got from a seller on eBay. Most horrible transaction ever. But it was so much cheaper.. but in the end, I only got one pad, so it ended up being almost the same price. It was supposed to be 2 pads with carrying cases for like $50

(basically like this auction)

I tried forever to get it to work... and finally realized, one pad was f-ed up. And then they have all these stupid auto responders to their emails.. so they never actually have to talk to you... I could not get support or get them to give me a replacement/money back. They have this stupid bonding crap agency to protect your purchase.. well, it's only good for the purchase price of $10! they distort the real price by charging $36 in shipping! which of course, isn't covered by the bonding thing or by any credit card purchase protection plan..etc...

I only got their attention when I left neg. feedback, which resulted in neg. feedback for me also! And then to protect my 100% positive feedback, i had to agree to withdraw my neg feedback for them, so they would withdraw theirs. And finally they gave me an RMA number, but would not pay return shipping.. so i just gave up. The USB adapter i bought from them didn't work either. The big plus to their products is the carrying case tho, cuz i take my pad to parties (hahah. lame, I know) but it really helps cart it around!
